The Original Developer of Reiki
A direct student of Mikao Usui, and the originator of the lineage which I am trained under.
Traditional Japanese Reiki is a non-invasive, holistic practice focused on restoring your body's natural energetic balance. The traditional Japanese approach emphasizes clearing energetic toxins and treating the root cause of blockages to support physical and emotional relief.
Many people find a familiar comparison in the Christian tradition of the laying on of hands, where a person acts as a conduit for healing grace. Both practices share the intention of channeling positive, restorative energy to someone in need. However, traditional Japanese Reiki is built on a specific, trainable methodology. It provides a structured framework of techniques and principles that any practitioner can learn and cultivate, rather than relying solely on a spontaneous or exclusive spiritual gift.
When accessing Reiki, practitioners do not use or drain their own personal energy. Instead, we tap into "universal life energy," which is the boundless, ambient energy that surrounds and permeates all living things. The practitioner acts simply as a grounded conduit, allowing this universal energy to flow through them and into your energetic field, delivering support exactly where your body needs it most.
I believe inner child work is highly important to Reiki therapy. It was when Mikao Usui experienced enlightenment that he received the knowledge of Reiki.
Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, described his experience of enlightenment (which he referred to as Anshin Ritsumei, the realization of deep inner peace and one's true nature) as a profound state of oneness and mental clarity. His experience and description of this feeling are characterized by a few specific realizations:
The Lifting of Illusion: He described the moment of awakening as a sudden lifting of fog or the melting of ice, where all former doubts disappeared.
Disappearance of the Egoic Self: Usui noted that the physical body that felt pain seemed to disappear, leaving no "hearing self" to observe the sounds around him; he described this as "dying while alive."
Heightened Clarity: Everything became utterly clear, with the faintest sounds and details perceived in total fine clarity.
The State of Anshin Ritsumei: He referred to the enlightened state as Anshin (peace in the heart and mind) and Ritsumei (standing firmly in one's true nature or destiny), which allows a person to see their true nature and remain thoroughly unmoved by external circumstances.
I believe that inner child work involves connecting with the purest form of ourselves. It is the soul that existed before anyone told it who to be or how to live. This is the part of us that connects us to pure joy. This part of us can never be changed, no matter what our physical and mental bodies may go through. We spend much of our childhood longing to be adults, and much of our adulthood searching for our inner child, though we may not always know it. Connecting with our inner child facilitates enlightenment and that feeling of oneness with everything. Connecting with your inner child creates a beacon for you to stand in your true nature, making this pure state foundational to the energetic healing process.
No. While a single appointment may aid with symptoms for a short-term (acute) health issue, chronic issues may take several Reiki therapy sessions. Reiki cannot replace your current health regimen, but it can support better long-term outcomes for chronic issues and assist with reducing symptoms and side effects.
If you are a cigarette smoker, I kindly ask that you refrain from smoking immediately prior to your appointment. I am highly allergic to cigarette smoke, even if I smell it on your clothes and I may not be able to complete your appointment if it interferes with my breathing due to my own diagnosis of Asthma and CIU.
To honor the customs of traditional Japanese households and maintain a clean energetic space, you will be asked to remove your shoes at the door. You are perfectly welcome to wear socks.
You will remain fully clothed during your session, so it is best to wear something comfortable.
You will remain fully clothed for the entire duration of your appointment. Your physical comfort is the highest priority, and you can customize your setup on the massage table. You may choose to use pillows, a bolster, or a face rest. You also have the option to rest comfortably on top of the covers, get cozy underneath them, or any combination of the above. As my practice grows, I will eventually purchase heated table pads. Any addons or modifications to your Reiki service are complimentary unless specifically stated otherwise.
Please note that I am not a massage therapist or similar type of practitioner, and I am not legally permitted to provide any type of massage.
However, I am trained and allowed to provide the Blood Circulation Improvement Technique. While I cannot describe the entire process due to the proprietary nature of my branch of traditional Japanese Reiki, you can expect physical touch on the following areas during this specific technique: your back, upper arms, hips, buttocks, and legs (including the outer thighs, inner thighs, and the back of the legs). I will also generate somatic movement during this technique. We will discuss this process before we begin, and you have complete control over whether we include or skip the somatic movement step during your service. You will have complete control over whether we do the Blood Circulation Improvement Technique at all.
Yes! This session is entirely for your benefit. Please let me know if you prefer to talk and process things verbally during the appointment, or if you prefer a quiet, silent experience to rest. Talking will not distract me from the practice. Please keep in mind that I am not a therapist or similar mental health practitioner.
You are not required to share any of your personal health information, but it may help to know where you are specifically having symptoms. If you prefer not to tell me, that is perfectly fine. I can use the sensing technique or even work at your head or feet to allow the energy to travel where it is most needed. I do not control the direction of the energy; I am simply the conduit.
Sound can greatly influence your nervous system and help shift you into a receptive state. You can advise what type of auditory background you prefer for your session:
Nature Soundscapes
General Meditation Music
Traditional Japanese and Zen Instrumentation
Solfeggio Frequencies, hand pans, and Singing Bowls
Vocal Chants and Choral Tones
Solo Piano and Neoclassical
No Sound
Lights can be completely on, completely off, or dimmed. It is your choice.
Absolutely! You may want to listen to it again later, journal about how you felt during the Reiki session, and etc.
The main thing I cannot allow in my studio is photographs of my Reiki certificate, or recordings of myself or others reading my reiki certificate. I habitually keep it covered in case anyone wants to take photos or videos of my studio.
